Safety Improvement Program on Mt. Vernon

The City of Grand Terrace authorized work to commence on the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HISP) Grant. The City of Grand Terrace was awarded the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Grant from Caltrans in November of 2016. The HSIP Grant will fund safety improvements at major intersections on Mt. Vernon Avenue. The total value of the grant is $435,700.
Project Description:
Project area includes the Mt. Vernon Avenue corridor from Canal Street/Grand Terrace Road to Pico Street with an emphasis on the following intersections:
• Mt. Vernon Avenue and Canal Street/Grand Terrace Road
• Mt. Vernon Avenue and Barton Road
• Mt. Vernon Avenue and De Berry Street
• Mt. Vernon Avenue and Van Buren Street
• Mt. Vernon Avenue and Pico Street
The proposed improvements include the installation of radar speed feedback signage along the stretch of Mt. Vernon Avenue between Canal Street/Grand Terrace Road and Pico Street; street and pedestrian crossing pavement marking improvements at Grand Terrace Road, De Berry Street, and Pico Street, and enhanced street lighting along selected segments of Mt. Vernon Avenue. The project should be completed within 60 days from July 15, 2020.
